Guest nights have fallen for the third month in a row, due to a large drop in international visitors.

Official figures show nights spent in short-term commercial accommodation fell 0.8% in March, compared to a year ago.

Domestic guest nights rose 1.4% offset by a 3.6% fall in international guest nights.

Guest nights fell for holiday parks, motels, and backpacker accommodation, but rose for hotels.

Tourism accounts for around 10% of the country's gross domestic product.
