Boeing has announced a $US7.2 billion order for 75 planes from Air Lease Corporation.
The 737 Max planes are specifically designed to be more fuel efficient than those they replace.
Boeing said on the first day of the Farnborough Airshow in England that it has now received orders for 1,000 737 Max planes, which are due to fly for the first time in 2016.
Last week, the company forecast that sales by global planemakers would reached $US4.5 trillion over the next 20 years, equating to 34,000 planes.
Boeing Commercial vice president Randy Tinseth says the market is growing despite the challenges in the marketplace.
