More unemployment in Eurozone

10:21 am on 1 August 2012

Unemployment continues to rise in the Eurozone, with 17.8 million people now out of work. It is the highest level since the Eurozone came into being in 1999.

Southern nations in Europe are bearing the brunt, with a quarter of Spain's working age population unemployed. Portugal's rate is 15.5%, while Italy and Greece are also high.

But companies also shed jobs in northern Europe, particularly France, Belgium and Austria.
