Cavalier introduces recycled carpet backing

2:04 pm on 16 August 2012

Carpet maker Cavalier is adding to its green credentials with the launch of a new backing material made of recycled wool carpets.

The backing uses material that would normally go into landfills, replaces the need for jute to be imported from India, and is also cheaper to make.

All Cavalier carpets will be backed with the recycled material which the company says performs better than jute.

Cavalier Bremworth marketing manager Desiree Keown says as well as recycling large amounts of used carpet, it is hoping to create an export demand for the new backing, called Flashbac.

She says carpets featuring the new backing will sell for about the same price as existing wool carpets.
