The New Zealand computer games industry is continuing to grow.

An annual survey of 33 members of the Game Developers Association found studios released 73 commercial video games during the year to March, mostly for iPhones and Android smartphones, and websites.

Some 97% of games consisted of ditigal downloads, which the industry says has low distribution costs and higher margins, while 99% of sales are from exports.

The number of people involved in developing computer games had doubled to 380 at the end of March compared with two years ago.
