Ports co-operate on container information system

10:43 pm on 17 September 2012

The ports of Auckland and Tauranga will launch a joint container management system to bring more efficiency and cut costs across their operations.

There will be a single point of information to check on the availability and status of cargo coming through the country's two largest ports.

The system will be used by shipping companies, transporters, importers, exporters and Customs.

The ports say it will allow them to collaborate but still remain competitive.

Ports of Auckland spokesperson Dee Radhakrishnan says it's difficult for customers to have to deal with multiple cargo management systems across different ports around the country.

Ms Radhakrishnan says the portal will go live at the end of the month.
