NZX 50 rises above 4000 points

The NZX 50 benchmark index rose 36 points (0.9%) on Thursday to close at 4002 on turnover of $111 million.

Cornerstone stock Telecom rose 2 cents to $2.455, and Fletcher Building jumped 24 cents to $7.59, while Contact Energy rose 10 cents to $5.41.

Auckland Airport rose 3 cents to $2.67, SkyCity Entertainment Group rose 5 cents to $3.95, Sky TV Network rose 1 cent to $5.12 after saying its expects flat performance in the coming year.

Fisher and Paykel Appliances rose 3 cents to $1.265 after Haier upped its takeover bid, and The Warehouse rose 4 cents to $3.16.

Tower rose 2 cents to $1.86, and NZX rose 6 cents to $1.23.

Nuplex was unchanged at $3.14, and retailer Hallenstein Glasson fell 1 cent to $4.84.

At the end of the business day, the NZ dollar was buying 82.15 US cents, 79.12 Australian cents, 50.93 pence, 64.99 yen, 0.6274 of a euro and the TWI was 72.94 points.
