Sky TV founder hailed as entrepreneur

Well-known businessmen Craig Heatley has been named Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year.

The founder of Sky TV was selected from a field of five entrepreneurs and was named the winner of the Master Entrepreneur category.

Sky TV was one of New Zealand biggest start-ups in the past 25 years and now has a market capitalisation of $2 billion.

Mr Heatley is also associated with high profile brands Progressive Enterprises, Foodtown and the Three Guys supermarket chain, Independent News, Kathmandu, Hirepool, Woosh Wireless and Masport.

He has investments in Pebble Beach Resort on the Monterey Peninsula in California, quarries in Australia, and land and buildings in China.

He says he is working on another big project but details remain secret.

Mr Heatley will represent New Zealand as the country winner in the Ernst & Young global Entrepreneur Of The Year awards in Monaco next June.
