Auckland International Airport has appointed its head of retail and commercial operations Adrian Littlewood as the company's new chief executive.

Mr Littlewood will earn up to $1.5 million a year running Auckland International Airport - with an annual base salary of $725,000 - in place of Simon Moutter, who's now at Telecom. His pay package also includes a short term incentive of up to $435,000 and a long term incentive grant of 50% of his salary.

Chairperson Joan Withers says that Mr Littlewood is the right person for the job to carry out the airport's plans to expand tourism from the fast-growing Asian region.

Mr Littlewood has been with the company since 2009 and has been credited with driving strong growth in the airport's retail and commercial operations, which accounts for about 40% of the company's revenue.
