A bank executive says lenders need to provide more advice and support to small and medium sized businesses to ensure future growth in the sector.
The BNZ's first nationwide survey of small businesses has found that while many are expecting to get bigger, they are not confident they have the skills in-house to sustain growth over the long-term.
BNZ director of retail banking Andy Symons says one in three businesses are growing, with another third expecting to expand in the future.
He says the small to medium businesses make up a significant part of the economy and banks should look at how they can accelerate growth.
