A rise in the number of people arriving to live in New Zealand long term, has led to a second month of migration gains.
Official figures show a seasonally adjusted net gain of 260 in October, up from 140 in September.
On an annual basis, there's been a net loss of 2300 people.
Meanwhile, the number of tourists coming here, fell in the year to October by 0.6%, to 2.5 million.
ANZ New Zealand senior economist Mark Smith says the number of people heading to Australia is slowing.
He says the labour market outlook in Australia is a touch softer than it's been for a number of months so New Zealanders are less likely to find jobs and are returning home.
