Slight gain for NZX

The NZX50 index rose 5 points, or 0.1%, to 4017 on turnover of $108 million on Thursday.

Telecom was up 0.5 cents to $2.35, Fletcher Building down 4 cents to $7.81, Contact Energy up 6 cents to $5.37 and Chorus up 2 cents at $3.34.

Sky City Entertainment was down 2 cents to $3.66 while Sky TV Network was up 15 cents to $5.22 after saying it will pay a special dividend.

Fisher & Paykel Healthcare fell 8 cents to $2.51 and The Warehouse fell 4 cents to $3.15.

Rises included AWF up 15 cents to $2.50, Tower up 5 cents to $1.95, Diligent up 3 cents to $4.71 and Xero up 5 cents to $6.44.

Falls included Hallenstein Glasson down 9 cents to $4.99, Energy Mad down 5 cents to 54 cents, Trade Me down 4 cents to $4.18 and Pyne Gould down 4 cents to 23 cents.

At the close of the day, the NZ dollar was trading at 82.45 US, 78.76 Australian, 51.47 pence, 67.70 yen and point-6364 euro. The TWI was at 73.73.
