Minister calls Pacific economic summit

8:54 pm on 13 February 2009

Business leaders from the Pacific community have been called to an economic summit next week by the Minister of Pacific Island Affairs.

Georgina Te Heu Heu says there is no point in the Government holding a national job summit without involvement by a community already affected by the recession.

Mrs Te Heu Heu says those invited come from many areas of business and she is looking for pragmatic ways to keep people in work.

She says good ideas came from the recent Maori summit and she wants Pacific Islanders working closer with that group.
