Business confidence has fallen in December, after rising slightly in November.

The ANZ business confidence survey found a net 23% of firms expect the economy to improve over the next year, down from 26% last month.

Investment intentions fell, but export intentions rose, while those believing their own prospects will improve next year, remained flat.

ANZ chief economist Cameron Bagrie says overall, confidence is relatively strong compared to historical averages.
