Record gambling revenues in Macau

Gambling revenue in Macau was up 13.5% in 2012 to a record $US38 billion.

Macau is the world's largest gaming hub.

AAP reports that gaming revenue rose to 304.14 billion patacas from 267.87 billion patacas in 2011, according to statistics posted on the official Gaming Inspection Coordination Bureau website on Wednesday.

Afterwards, shares in Macau casino operators rose on the Heng Seng index in Hong Kong.

Sands China gained 5.3 per cent to HK$35.75 and Galaxy Entertainment added 3.1% to HK$31.30.

Financial markets were closed in mainland China for a public holiday.
