Seafood New Zealand chief executive Tim Pankhurst wants to lift seafood exports by $1 billion per year.
The new head of the organisation will take up his role promoting New Zealand seafood to the world, in April.
The industry currently exports nearly $1.6 billion worth of product each year and is New Zealand's fifth largest exporter.
Mr Pankhurst said he hopes to substantially increase that.
