January good month for real estate company

A real estate firm says it has had its busiest January in years.

Barfoot and Thompson says it sold 820 properties last month, its highest level in six years, while listings reached a five-year high.

Prices declined to an average of $601,000 compared with pre-Christmas activity, but it is the first time the $600,000 mark has been broken in January.

Barfoot says the Auckland housing market is showing no signs of slowing down.
