Sudden resignation of Turners and Growers boss

The chief executive of Turners and Growers has quit suddenly.

The fruit and vegetable producer and exporter, which is which is 73% owned by Germany's BayWa says Geoff Hipkins has gone and his role will be filled by its chief financial officer Harald Hamster-Egerer and its general manager of international markets Alastair Hulbert.

Last month, Turners and Growers reported an annual loss of $15.3 million for the second successive year, due to further writedowns of its apple and kiwifruit orchards.

Its share price remained unchanged at $1.55 each.
