Restaurant Brands' total sales across its four brands during the three months to May were $73 million, nearly 4% higher than the same time last year.

The new Carl's Junior brand of burger restaurants, launched last November, was the largest contributor to the sales increase, with three stores trading for most of the quarter.

KFC's sales were flat, Starbucks Coffee fell 5% and Pizza Hut sales were up 6.7%.

The firm says a fourth Carl's Junior store, opened in Hamilton two weeks ago, achieved a weekly sales record for any store operated by the company.
