Bosses less likely to hire new staff

Employers in Australia are less enthusiastic about hiring new employees in the coming months compared with early 2013.

AAP reports a survey by recruitment agency Manpower found the proportion of bosses planning to recruit in the September quarter has declined to 17%.

In March, 21% of employers planned to hire during the upcoming June quarter.

The transport and utility sectors are the most likely to be recruiting new staff into the first month of spring, with insurance and real estate employers also searching.

But manufacturing, mining and construction bosses are in no mood to interview applicants.

Jobseekers are more likely to have luck in the Northern Territory. Western Australia is a distant second.
