Spending by international tourists declined over the past year, for the first time since 1999, when record keeping began.
Statistics New Zealand says visitors here spent $87 million less in the year to March - a decline of 0.9%.
Overall, international tourism contributed $9.3 billion to the economy for the 12-month period.
Domestic tourism spending was worth more: $12.4 billion.
In September, there were 12,600 more arrivals from Australia than the same time last year.
A notable decline was among Korean visitors, which were down by 1500.
