ASB says online banking reaching tipping point

9:35 am on 23 July 2013

ASB Bank says New Zealanders' appetite for online banking has reached a crucial tipping point.

More than half its customers who access their bank accounts electronically are now doing so on a mobile device.

ASB head of digital experience and commerce Michael Ramsay says the rapid adoption of mobile banking represents one of the biggest and fastest shifts in customer behaviour his bank has seen.

However, Mr Ramsay won't say what proportion of ASB's customers use electronic banking services or give an indication of how much the bank saves in running costs as a result of this shift in behaviour.
