In the markets on Tuesday the Top 50 index gained 24 points to reach 4578.
OceanaGold rose 8 cents to $1.98 after the price of gold rose to a four-week high in New York overnight, although it eased back a little on Tuesday's trading.
Accounting software company Xero's shares gained 71 cents to reach $18.10.
Shares in the security software company, Wynyard Group, which had a disappointing trading debut last week, gained four cents to $1.12 but are still below their $1.15 issue price.
Wynyard raised $65 million from its float to repay debt and to fund its international expansion.
The New Zealand dollar rose more than half a cent to 79.30 US cents and gained a quarter of a cent to 86.21 Australian cents, 51.87 British pence, 60.28 euro, 79.27 yen and the The Trade Weighted Index stood at 75.05.
