More women in director roles, survey reveals

Research on directors' pay shows the proportion of director roles held by women has almost doubled in the past six years.

The survey, by consultants Strategic Pay, includes listed companies as well as public sector and non-government organisations.

It shows 24% of director roles were held by women this year compared to 13% in 2008.

Over the same period, the proportion of women chairing organisations increased from 9% to 13%.

Strategic Pay chief executive John McGill says there's social pressure on organisations to increase the gender balance on boards.
