Online retailer Amazon has reported a loss of $US7 million on sales of $US5.7 billion for the three months ended June.
That compares to a $US7 million profit in the same period last year and was despite a 22% increase in sales.
Amazon is trying to diversify away from simply warehousing and selling gadgets to providing broader technologies, such as tablets.
