Silverdale Knitwear says its purchase of the Christchurch company PJ Jeans is part of its strategy to expand by acquisition and tap into other markets.
The Levin knitwear company has doubled in size with the P J Jeans acquisition.
Silverdale managing director Warren Cotterill says his company has had a relationship with P J Jeans owner, Phil Creighton, for 15 years and there are many synergies between the two operations.
He says the purchase will mean more jobs in Levin and business as usual at PJ Jeans in Christchurch.
Both companies manufacture offshore, mainly in central and southern China.
