Fonterra refutes DCD allegations

Fonterra has confirmed it has been notified of legal action banning it from selling and advertising its products in Sri Lanka for the next two weeks.

The dairy co-operative says the injunction has been brought by three individuals who work for a local union and is nothing to do with the Sri Lankan Government.

It says it strongly refutes allegations that its products may be contaminated with DCD, which is used in fertilisers.

Fonterra's managing director Asia Pacific, Middle East and Africa, Johan Priem, says independent testing has found no traces of DCD in any Fonterra branded products in Sri Lanka.

He also says no affected whey protein concentrate, or products containing it, have been sent there.

Mr Priem says Fonterra is confident of the quality and safety of its products in Sri Lanka and it is looking at its legal options.
