The number of consents for new homes has eased.

Official figures show permits issued for houses and apartments fell by a seasonally adjusted 0.8% to 1700 in July after falling 4.3% in June.

Excluding apartments, consents were up 3.1%.

Statistics New Zealand said the trend for the number of new dwellings has been increasing for over two years, but is showing signs of easing.
