Metlifecare to build next village in Glenfield

Metlifecare says it has gained resource consent to build its 24th village at Stanley Road in Glenfield, Auckland, which it will name The Orchards because it was once planted in citrus and peach trees.

The retirement village operator plans to build 96 apartments and a 36-bed care facility on the site which will costs $40 million.

It plans to start building before the end of this year. When completed, the village will provide jobs for at least 40 people.

A house on the site will be refurbished as a cafe which will be a focal point for the village and will be open to the public.

Other facilities will include a pool, spa, gymnasium, library, lounge, bar and dining room, hair salon, billiard room, arts and crafts room, blokes shed, movie theatre, vegetable plots and an outdoor barbeque area.
