Briscoe Group says it's confident of beating last year's profit after sales for the nine months to October rose more than 6%.

The owner of Briscoes Homeware, Living and Giving and Rebel Sport stores says sales rose to $320.9 million, is 6.17% higher than the same three quarters last year.

Stores open for more than a year showed a rise of more than 4%, with sporting goods sales stronger than homeware.

Managing director Rod Duke says third quarter sales growth was pleasing, particularly as it didn't include the successful Labour Day promotion.

He says unlike in the second quarter there was traditional seasonal weather and the customers responded to the beautiful weather.

Mr Duke says it bodes well for the Christmas quarter and he's confident net profit will exceed last year's result of $30.5 million.

He says barring any catastrophes he's looking forward to a good final quarter.

Mr Duke says due to the high New Zealand dollar Briscoes has bought better quality merchandise from the United States.
