Job cuts coming at gold mine

1:28 pm on 24 November 2013

Newcrest is to start cutting jobs at its Telfer gold mine in Western Australia to cut costs.

The company flagged the cuts in July, saying the low gold price along with high operating costs was squeezing its margins.

It employs 1200 people at the east Pilbara mine site, which includes its own workforce as well as contractors.

The ABC reports Newcrest refused to confirm how many jobs will be cut, saying it will inform workers first.
