The stock exchange says Tuesday was a record trading day, largely driven by a re-balancing of the Morgan Stanley Capital Index (MSCI).
NZX says $926.8 million of shares changed hands, the highest ever for a day which didn't include a new listing, in more than 12,050 trades which was a record.
Ryman Healthcare joined the MSCI while Sky City left the index.
There were 868 trades worth more than $341 million in Ryman shares and 704 trades worth nearly $283 million in SkyCity shares.
