Businesses criticised over corporate responsibility

KPMG New Zealand has undertaken research that shows New Zealand companies lagging behind

others in the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD).

It says corporate reporting on matters such as a company's environmental sustainability is no longer seen overseas as something nice but optional - instead, it has become mainstream.

But KPMG NZ's director of sustainability services says New Zealand's corporate-responsibility reporting is in the bottom quartile of countries.

Jamie Sinclair says New Zealand companies need to improve their performance because customers in the global marketplace often make choices based on their environmental performance.
