Online retail sales rose again in November, due to pre-Christmas purchases on international websites.

BNZ's Online Retail Sales Index shows online sales rose 11%, compared with the same month last year.

Online spending at the websites of domestic stores rose 5.5%. Spending at the stores themselves was 3.3%.

Spending was more focused on international sites, with a 20% jump in purchases from offshore websites.

The index shows 60% of the offshore online purchases were made on websites in the United States, United Kingdom and Australia.

Despite the allure of shopping internationally when the dollar's very strong, BNZ institutional research director Gary Baker said domestic online sales are likely to pick up this month.
