Petcare company triples profit

Medical supplies and petcare company EBOS has more than tripled its first-half net profit, reflecting the purchase of Symbion in Australia last year.

The Australasian company made $49.4 million profit in the six months ended December, compared with $15 million in the same period a year earlier.

The result also beats the $48.7 million forecast in last June's prospectus to support its $1.1 billion acquisition of Symbion.

At the time, the New Zealand dollar was at 82 Australian cents, compared with the actual rate of 92c at the end of December.

Chief executive Mark Waller says all the business units performed well, despite the high dollar.
