Survey shows strong economic activity

The latest survey has found economic activity rose in all regions bar one in the last three months of the year.

The latest ANZ regional trends report found activity rose 0.9 percent in the December quarter, underpinned by increasing business and consumer confidence, improving labour market conditions and a rise in consumer spending.

The West Coast and Northland regions experienced the highest increase.

Auckland activity edged down, though it follows four quarters of strong economic expansion.

On an annual basis, economic activity grew 4.4 percent, dominated by Canterbury and Auckland.
