The biggest contributor to February's rise was a 3.9 percent rise in internet advertising.

Newspaper advertising also rose by 2.3 percent but remains more than 6 percent lower than this time last year.

On a regional basis, Otago, Waikato, Canterbury and Hawke's Bay rose in February but Wellington and Manawatu lost ground

Of the main centres, Canterbury remains the strongest.

The bank says the lift indicates unemployment, currently at 6 percent, will continue to decline gradually in the coming months.
