Retail spending using electronic cards was flat for a second month in July.
However, core retail spending, which excludes vehicle-related industries, rose 0.5 percent in seasonally adjusted terms in July from the previous month
Spending on durable goods was up nearly 0.9 percent while spending on consumable goods rose 0.3 percent. Spending on fuel fell 0.6 percent in the latest month.
The total value of electronic card spending, including services and other non-retail spending, fell 0.1 percent.
In unadjusted terms, there were 118 million transactions with an average value of $51 and a total value of $6 billion.
