Market falls, no change in dollar

New Zealand shares fell today, with the benchmark Top 50 Index losing 24 points, or about 0.5 percent, to 5146 points.

The head of research at Fat Prophets, Greg Smith, said previously high-performing stocks continue to be sold.

Shares in accountancy software company Xero shares lost 45 cents to $17.50 today. They have fallen from a peak at $45.99 in March, with the more recent declines coming after investors were disappointed by its sales growth in the United States.

Wynyard shares dropped 9 cents to $1.98, while Kathmandu shares gained 12 cents to $2.92.

Meanwhile, the New Zealand dollar is day little changed from a day ago. At 5.20pm today, it was trading at 78.91 US cents, 89.74 Australian cents, 49.09 British pence, 0.6201 euro, 84.6 yen and 4.84 renminbi.
