Pacific Brands to sell multiple brands

7:43 am on 19 November 2014

Pacific Brands has decided to sell its footwear, apparel and sports brands for $A39 million, booking a $A30 million loss on their book value.

The brands include those it owns outright, such as Julius Marlow, as well as brands it is licensed to use in Australia and New Zealand, such as Clarks, Hush Puppies, Dunlop and Slazenger.

The company will be left with mainly its Bonds underwear and Sheridan sheets and towels brands.

Chief executive David Bortolussi said the latest deals should be completed in less than two weeks.

The company posted a $A224.5 million loss for the year ended June, mainly because of write-downs in the value of its workwear brands, such as Hard Yakka, Stubbies and KingGee.

It has since sold these brands for about $A35 million more than their written-down value.
