Food prices lower in November

Food prices have fallen, with declines in vegetable prices leading the downward monthly result.

Official figures show food prices fell 0.5 percent in November, following no overall change the month before.

Fruit and vegetable prices dropped 3 percent last month, with lower prices for tomatoes, strawberries and courgettes, offset by higher prices for potatoes, apples, nectarines and carrots.

Meat, poultry and fish prices fell 0.3 percent.

On an annual basis, in the year to November food prices increased 0.6 percent.
