Global air travel is continuing to show robust growth, with the International Air Transport Association (IATA) saying passenger travel last year rose 5.9 percent.

This was higher than last year's growth and higher than the average for the past 10 years.

The association said more than half of the increase was in the Asia-Pacific region, especially China.

Another big growth area was the Middle East.

Aircraft capacity grew almost as fast as passenger travel, with increased loading of aircraft making up the difference.
