The ANZ-Roy Morgan New Zealand Consumer Confidence index rose one point on a seasonally adjusted basis to 128.8 in April, compared with the previous month.

ANZ chief economist Cameron Bagrie, said New Zealand was reinforcing its status as the plucky country, with positive sentiment rising, while Australia was seeing the reverse.

Mr Bagrie said the high New Zealand dollar had been a drag for exporters, but has made imported goods cheaper for consumers, with Gold Coast holidays much cheaper now than they were last year.
