Home detention for tax evader

4:10 pm on 11 July 2016

A management consultant who failed to pay almost a quarter of a million dollars in GST and income tax has been sentenced to six months' home detention.

Regina Beck, who worked for I-change Management Consultants, had been convicted of failing to pay tax on the income she earned while working for the company.

According to the company's website, she specialises in strategic human resources and was a principal consultant at PriceWaterhouseCoopers.

The IRD says when Mrs Beck was audited she only declared the money she had made through a recruitment agency and not what she had made while working for herself and I-change.

The department found she evaded $159,136 of income tax and $79,191 of GST.

The IRD said the offending was brazen and sustained and showed a total disregard for the country's tax system.
