Beer ad cleared

12:59 pm on 12 April 2009

A television advertisement for Tui beer has been ruled as acceptable despite accusations that it aligns drinking with driving.

The Candor Trust, which aims to reduce impaired driving, complained about the DB Breweries ad to the Advertising Standards Authority, saying the ad associates drinking with driving in a positive way.

Some of the members on the complaints board were concerned about the content of the ad, but the majority believed it does not breach advertising standards.

DB says the ad, which depicts men trying to make off with a truck full of beer, is clearly fictional, and there is no drink- driving portrayed, implied, condoned or promoted.
