Telecom seeks change in resale regulations

11:42 am on 1 June 2009

Telecom has applied to the Commerce Commission seeking to change the current regulations covering the handling of resale products.

Telecom currently provides home phone lines to other telecommunication companies at a discount of up to 5%. These are then bundled with the services of the other companies.

The company says those products have been around a long time and are tightly controlled. It argues times have changed since it was split into three separate divisions.

Retail, wholesale and network divisions were established last year.

Telecom says that's made the current level of regulation an old legacy.

The company has made a detailed submission to the commission. It says it is willing to continue offering resale products, but on a commercial basis.
