Agriculture to lead NZ through recovery - Cushing

11:02 am on 3 December 2009

Agriculture and horticulture are likely to lead New Zealand through the economic recovery, Rural Equities chairman Sir Selwyn Cushing says.

Rural Equities has 30 farms throughout New Zealand, as well as a mature pine forest, and has recently merged with New Zealand Rural Property Trust, whose properties and assets are valued at $200 million.

Sir Selwyn says the merged company has a very diversified portfolio, which will put the company in a strong position to take advantage of growth in the sector as the global economy recovers.

Shares in Rural Equities are trading on the Unlisted and ShareMart trading platforms, but the company is considering listing on the NZX next year.
