Greenstone Energy, the new owner of Shell's retail and distribution assets, has announced its first development - a new service station near Tauranga.

Greenstone Energy is jointly owned by Infratil and the New Zealand Superannuation Fund.

Retail general manager Mark Forsyth says construction of the service station should start in June and trading will begin in October.

It will trade under the Shell brand and be run by local operators.
