NZ market higher at close

The New Zealand sharemarket rose 12 points to close at 3018 on Wednesday on turnover of $61 million.

Fletcher Building gained 16 cents to $7.34 per share after announcing a profit of $272 million in the 2010 financial year, Telecom was up 1c to $2.08 and Contact Energy was 4c higher at $5.78.

Sky City Entertainment was down 1c to $2.88 and Sky Network Television fell 3c to $4.92.

Air New Zealand rose 2c cent to $1.17. Retailer The Warehouse gained up 3c to $3.48.

Freightways was 6c up at $2.87 after the courier and information management firm's annual profits fell by a third due to the patchy economic recovery and one-off items.

NZ Farming Systems Uruguay fell 1c to 63c cents, while Allied Farmers was up a tenth of a cent to 2.8c.

Pyne Gould Corporation was unchanged at 43c after issuing a profit upgrade at the start of the week.

DNZ Property Fund rose 3c to $1.01 following its stock market debut on Monday.

At 5.20pm on Wednesday, the New Zealand dollar was trading at 71.10 US, 78.81 Australian, 45.69 pence, 60.73 yen and 0.5535 euro. The Trade Weighted Index stood at 66.1.
