Ports of Auckland says there are signs consumers are starting to buy more goods.
The port says container volumes rose nearly 8% in the three months to September, compared with the same period last year.
Imports rose 10% with vehicles jumping 25% percent, while exports increased 4%.
The cruise ship season begins on Friday, with scheduled visits to Auckland set to rise from 62 to 79.
